ArteSumapaz - A love story.

I am honored to share my personal experience of growing into the intentional artists community of ArteSumaPaz in Colombia.
When I began to write this, I was sitting in The Granero (our multi use space and movement studio), listening to birds sing, looking over rolling green trees and mountains, with cows calling out to each other in the near distance. I’m part of the community of ArteSumapaz for the last 3 years, an artist residency that has studios of all kinds, draws artists from everywhere, and is a place of absolute, profound beauty.
I am from many places, but this amazing land instantly felt like home when I arrived here under the full moon in July of 2022. Maybe it sounds a bit like a fairy tale, and in some ways, at least to me, it is.
I first traveled to Latin America in 2008, and I was completely enamored with the biodiversity, the people, the creativity, the music, the food, and the general vibe of kindness, joy and generosity.
Did I mention how people love to dance at any moment? Yeah, that part is amazing too.
Don’t even get me started on my love for Bogota…!
I had my eye on the Caribbean zone of the world, or some place near the ocean, to create or take part in a project… But when my good friend Tiffany introduced me to the idea of possibly joining the community of ArteSumaPaz (who I had already started following on instagram - https://www.instagram.com/artesumapaz?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==) instantly I knew I had to visit. Once I came to this magic land, there was no turning back. I knew I had to offer my love, support and energy to this place.
I think of ASP as an inspiration farm. I adore that people are called here from all over the planet, to this wildly gorgeous spot on Earth. We’re constantly being infused with new ideas, new energy and new ways of taking care of our land at ArteSumapaz.
After My residency in Jan 2023, my intention to join completely sealed the deal for me!
Each time I come to ArteSumaPaz, I know my situation and experience will be completely different from the last. The artists who find us, their stories, creativity and fresh ways of doing their practices never cease to delight my time here and teach me something new.
Each time I return, I see my art evolve, take new turns, get bolder and more refined.
I find a type of peace here that I honestly have not experienced elsewhere - and part of that is due to the humans that arrive here and invigorate our community.
I also find the natural wonders, such as a plethora of butterflies and other flying creatures that exist here, fill me up with something so special and hard to explain.
ArteSumaPaz reminds us all that we are part of the fabric of this delicate and awesome planet, and also this delicate and amazing universe.
